How much does
it cost?
The cost of the item you choose to paint (anything from £3.15
to £45.00) plus a studio fee of £4 per person per session.
The average
cost of the most popular items - mugs, breakfast plates and cereal
bowls - is just under £10. So we suggest that you budget for
a total of approximately £14 per person.
How long does
it take?
On average about one and a half to two hours but equally it can
take longer. Younger children tend to take less time than older
ones.
During busy
periods (school holidays and weekends) we have to restrict sessions
to a two hour period.
What if we
don't finish our piece in one session?
You can leave it with us and come back and finish it another day.
All we ask is that you pay a studio fee for each session.
Why isn't the
studio fee included in the cost of the item?
The studio fee is a cost per person - one person can paint a number
of items and pay only £4. A number of people painting one
item each pay £4 per person.
What is the
studio fee for?
It covers the cost of the paint, glazing and firing, together
with the use of the studio and its equipment.
What sort
of items can we paint?
We have a wide range of items which include cups, mugs, plates,
bowls, platters, plant pots, piggy banks,
dog bowls, jugs, trinket boxes, teapots and tiles, to name but
a few. Click here to see examples.
Can we take
our items away with us on the day that we paint them?
Unfortunately
not because the underglaze paint has to dry and then we glaze
and fire them - a process
that takes in excess of twenty-four hours!
It's always
a good idea to advise children of this before they come to avoid
disappointment.
When can we
collect our items?
Items are usually ready within three to four days of firing. During
busy periods, such as half term and Christmas, it may be up to a
week.
Our usual pattern
of firing is as follows but is not guaranteed:
| FIRING DAY: |
FOR COLLECTION: |
| Tuesday |
Thursday |
| Thursday |
Saturday |
| Saturday |
Monday |
Items are only
available from midday onwards as they take several hours to cool.
What if we can't collect them straightaway?
We will keep finished items for up to six months after which time
they will be donated to a local charity shop.
Is it just
for children?
Not at all! Painting ceramics appeals to all ages.
We can cater
for babys' footprints and handprints;
we encourage toddlers to finger paint; we have books full of inspirational
material and seasonal themes. Adults can enjoy more peaceful sessions
while the children are at school - either in the mornings or until
9.00 p.m. on Thursday evenings - or have family painting sessions
at the weekend.
Do you do parties?
Birthday parties, anniversary parties, leaving parties, hen parties,
corporate training parties, Christmas parties, school parties -
you name it and we can help you celebrate!
We can cater
for parties of up to thirty people - adults or children or a mix
of both. We don't have a dedicated party room but we try to arrange
the studio so that all the children in one party are together. However,
with very large parties this may mean more than one table. If you
have thirty participants, then you will have the studio all to yourselves!
You can bring
along your own party food, drinks and a birthday cake. You can even
bring balloons. If you prefer, you can organise a take-away and
eat it at your table (Pizza Express, Puccinos and KFC are all nearby).
We book parties
for a period of two hours. This allows about an hour and a half
for painting. Then we clear the tables, get the children to wash
their hands and they can have their party meal - food and paint
just don't go together!
A party for
up to ten people will cost, on average, £14 per head. For
ten or more, there is a special rate of £12 per head which
covers the studio fee and any item up to the value of £10
(effectively halving the studio fee).
Please contact
us should you require a party outside our usual opening hours (parties
of twenty and over only).

Are the underglaze
paints washable?
All the paints are washable but, if you're worried, we have bib-style
aprons - don't hesitate to ask.
Are the underglaze
paints toxic?
We use non-toxic paints and lead-free glaze.
Can you use
the items in the dishwasher/microwave?
All items can safely be used in the dishwasher and microwave.
Do you do gift
vouchers?
Yes.
Or you can buy an unpainted item and present it as a gift together
with a studio fee voucher.
Do you supply
drinks and snacks?
We have a range of hot and cold drinks and sweet and savoury snacks.
We have no objection if you would like to bring a sandwich or pizza
with you but we do not recommend eating and painting at the same
time! On Thursday evenings you might like to bring a bottle of wine
with you - we can supply wine glasses and a corkscrew!
Do you get
any help?
We have helpful, knowledgeable staff on hand to explain what you
have to do and to guide and assist you while you are painting.
I'm not artistic,
got any ideas?
Even people who claim not to be artistic can enjoy painting ceramics.
The answer is to chose a bold and simple design - there are lots
of examples in the studio together with a vast supply of source
material, stencils, stamps, sponges and drawing equipment.
Do you do commissions?
If
you truly don't feel up to producing something yourself to mark
a special occasion, one or our staff would be happy to discuss doing
it for you. Details on request.
Can we do any
preparation at home?
You
can prepare your design and bring it with you. We have carbon paper
which you can use to transfer your design to the biscuitware.
Do you do a
take home service?
Items
of biscuitware can be purchased and taken home for painting. We
sell brushes and paints for home use. Individual paints (60 ml)
cost approximately £3.50 per colour.
Do you post
finished items to customers?
This
is not a service that we operate at present.
Do you have
disabled facilities?
We
have a ramp for disabled access and an arrangement with the restaurant
next door for the use of their disabled toilets.
Are you baby
friendly?
We
have a changing mat, bottle warmer and high chair.
Where's the
nearest car park?
The nearest
car park is in Wathen Road. The pedestrian access from the car park
joins the High Street almost opposite the studio and there is a
pelican crossing close by.
